The IAM Union (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers or IAM) District 250 has over one hundred years of experience representing workers in British Columbia. In these pages you will find general information regarding the Rights and Protections workers enjoy in BC. There is also specific information regarding the Machinists Union and how we have advanced our Members interests for over a century.
The IAM has been representing workers in British Columbia since 1901. Our Union is known for its democratic structure and our dedication to the service of our members. Our Members are involved in every action we take.
Democratic Union: All of District 250’s Business Representatives are elected by the membership at large. The District is governed by delegates from our constituent Locals. With over 80 unionized certifications with their own collective agreement, our Locals cover many different sectors of the economy. We represent a varied cross-section of skilled trades including machine/fab shops. heavy equipment shops, aerospace, commercial transport shops, automotive dealerships and manufacturing.
- Local 11: Machinists and other trades at Avcorp Industries, aircraft parts manufacturer
- Local 456: Vancouver Island shops: automotive, commercial transport, machine shops
- Local 692: Fabrication/machine shops, Shipyards, and heavy duty shops such as Finning
- Local 1857: Automotive and commercial transport shops
- Local 2711: Modular home and building construction at Moduline Industries
- Local 550: Shipyard & Electrical Equipment Manufacturing
The Machinists Union also represents Air Transport workers, including Air Canada workers. They are represented by IAM District 140.
